Foolproof

by Diane Tullson

tagged: contemporary, violence, law & crime
Description

Seventeen-year-old Daniel’s new girlfriend says she loves him, that she’d do anything for him.

She makes Daniel feel like anything is possible. So he ignores her lies. It’s not like Cyn is a bad person. Then Daniel finds out that Cyn has been using him to move drugs across the border. Foolproof is a tough book about the consequences of gang life that asks readers to consider the line between taking risks and taking lives. Daniel crosses that line and learns a hard lesson—that no one ever thinks they are the bad guy.

This short novel is a high-interest, low-reading level book for teen readers who are building reading skills, want a quick read or say they don’t like to read! The epub edition of this title is fully accessible.

Editorial Reviews

"Focusing on tough themes and subjects that will resonate with adolescents...this title will immerse readers; the writing is to the point and immediate, the print size large, and the cover darkly enticing."

— School Library Journal

"Daniel is a likeable and authentic first person narrator...Foolproof is well-paced; Tullson skillfully uses the nearly constant action to develop Daniel's character. The story, itself, provides an interesting examination of our willingness to believe lies and to ignore our gut instincts in the face of a threat to our happiness by "the truth"...A high-stakes and high-interest story with a lively pace written at a lower reading level...Highly Recommended."

— CM Magazine

"The border town setting of this novel is ideal to show how teens can get caught up in local smuggling. Naïve Daniel is perfect prey for the beautiful and apparently rich Cynthia. This novel is a warning that no one is 'foolproof'."
